AN OPEN LETTER OF THANKS TO OUR MILITARY

I just want to say thank you. As sincerely and respectfully as I can, I offer my gratitude to the brave men & women who serve our country. I also want to thank the families of our soldiers as well. I would love to read this out loud and on the radio but there’s no way I could without losing it. I get very emotional when it comes to those of you who’ve answered this noble call and volunteered to risk your life for me, my family, for our country and our freedom. I'm the son of a Marine and the little brother of two great Army men who served our country well. I vividly remember lying in bed as a kid wondering if my oldest brother, Dave, who spent more than a year in Vietnam, was in danger for his life; struggling with the realization that he may not come home.

One of the most humbling things I’ve ever experienced was to personally hear about so many young men and women who, just days after 9/11, dropped everything to join the military in heroic response to that devastating and evil attack. Tom Brokaw labeled the men of my father’s era who served in World Wars I and II “The Greatest Generation” and I truly believe they were. I think we are presently being served and defended by "The Next Truly Great Generation."

So, Soldier, Airman, Marine, Sailor- wherever you are reading this, I want you to know that I am personally and profoundly grateful to you when I’m laughing with my kids. I think about you when I have the luxury of doing all the everyday things of my life like coaching my daughter’s softball team. I pray for many of you whose names I know and all of you I’ll never meet, while I drive to work. I try to imagine the hottest, sandiest, loneliest, scariest moments in your day and I ask God to keep you safe, to give you hope and to make you comfortable. I also pray that one fine day I’ll have the chance to meet you in person, shake your hand and buy you the coldest beer you’ve ever tasted.

To the families who’s sons & daughters or husbands & daddies, brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles are serving so far away: know that we don’t overlook your sacrifice as well. We see you bravely carry on. We understand your worry though we can’t possible feel your pain. We want to help you cope in every way we can until the day your loved one returns to you.

As we celebrate another red, white, and blue birthday please know that we will never forget what you are doing. We will always respect and appreciate what you have done. And I personally will forever offer my love and gratitude for who you are.

May God bless you and this great country you’re fighting for!

Have a Heart -Adopt a Soldier!

For as long as our troops need help, $5.00 or 5% (whichever amount is greater) from each JK Dooley Giclée purchase (retail & sale prices) will be donated to help support our troops.

There's an organization in New York called 'Have a Heart/Adopt a Soldier' run by a lady named Gladys Walker.

Gladys sends approximately $2000.00 in supplies every week (200+ boxes) to our troops in the Middle East, and can always use money and/or supplies.

I've sponsored 4 soldiers so far. The first one is home. The second sent a letter to me, thanking me for the package and telling me..."nice to know there are people out there that still care about the soldiers and our fight, other than our families"....He is now home, too. The 3rd soldier send me a note, saying "it means a lot to see the support that organizations and people like you give to the deployed soldiers...." She is home now, and I'm sponsoring a new soldier.

I'm donating $5.00 or 5% (whichever amount is greater) from each Giclée sold to 'Have a Heart/Adopt a Soldier'. If you would like it to be donated in your name, please let me know by utilizing the 'Additional Information/Comments' section when you order.

In addition, send this website to anyone you know who may be interested in helping.

If you do not wish a donation be made from your purchase, please add that information when you order, and I will certainly honor your request.

You'll find a link to Glady's website in our 'Helpful Links' section.

Thank you!

Honor the heroes who laid down their lives to preserve our freedom. Never forget.

Eulogy for a Veteran

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

"Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

"A thoughtful mind, when it sees a Nation's flag, sees not the flag only, but the Nation itself;
and whatever may be its symbols, its insignia, he reads chiefly in the flag the Government,
the principles, the truths, the history which belongs to the Nation which belongs to the Nation that sets it forth."

Henry Ward Beecher
from " The American Flag"
